Abstract

Resumen: Este artículo presenta algunas reflexiones sobre la sustentabilidad, la pobreza y el turismo, una trilogía inseparable en la realidad latinoamericana. O partir de grandes preguntas ir armando una respuesta muy general que se adecue a la realidad de los países emergentes. Se analiza el concepto de desarrollo sustentable y los impactos que la actividad turística tiene sobre el ambiente y la sociedad de acogida. Así mismo, se revisan comparativamente los ejemplos de Calviá, en las islas Baleares, España y Cancún en México. PALABRAS CLAVE: desarrollo sustentable, turismo, pobreza, Calviá, Cancún. Abstract: Sustainability, Poverty and Tourism. Opportunity or Necessity? This paper offers some reflections with regard to sustainability, poverty and tourism, three phenomena inseparable in Latin America. This paper also seeks to provide a general response that will address the reality of emerging countries. The concept of sustainable development and the impact that tourism activity has on the environment and host society are studied. Also provided is a comparison of Calviá in the Balearic Islands (Spain) and Cancun in Mexico.
