Abstract

Resumo: Apesar da grande dificuldade de se encontrar uma solução satisfatória para as relações entre discurso literário e realidade social, a questão sempre se apresentou como o problema mais inevitável e necessário à teoria literária. Ao refletir sobre dois textos do ficcionista americano Nathaniel Hawthorne, este ensaio revisita textos clássicos sobre o tema focalizando em como a passagem de uma comunidade fechada para uma sociedade problematizadora de suas verdades faz com que a linguagem do gênero narrativo abandone sua transparência e passe a trabalhar como constituidora de uma realidade. Abstract: Although the difficulty to find a satisfactory solution to the relations between literary discourse and social reality, the question always appeared as the most inevitable and necessary to the literary theory. On reflecting about two texts of the American fictionist Nathaniel Hawthorne, this essay reviews classical texts about the matter focalizing in how the passage of a closed community to a society questioner of its own truths makes the language of narrative genre abandon its transparency and starts to work as constitutive of a reality. Résumé: Malgré la grande difficulté de se trouver une solution satisfaisante pour les relations entre discours littéraire et réalité sociale, la question se présenta toujours comme le problème le plus inévitable et nécessaire à la théorie littéraire.
